What does your mind start thinking when you hear the word ‘Kumbh’?

All may have their own definitions but the common thing that every one will relate to it is the Kumbh Mela. Mythologically the Kumbh Mela has its own story of origin about the war between the Devtas (Demigods) and the Asuras (Demons), but when a question is asked to every person who is standing next to the river at the Kumbh Mela, they would only say you “Kumbh ke Meley Snaan karne se saare paap dhul jate hai” which means that one dive inside the holy river of the Kumbh Mela washes away all the sins of your life.

Kumbh mela is a is a mass pilgrimage based on the religion of Hinduism. It is held in every 3 years alternatively at Ujjain, Haridwar, Allahabad and Nasik. The most recent Kumbh Mela took place in 2013 at Allahabad and the next one will be held at Nasik this year which will start from 14th August. 2015 and will continue till 25th September, 2015. The schedule for this year’s Kumbh Mela is given below:

Date (2015) Day Event

According to me Kumbh Mela is not just a mere festivity like Diwali and Holi, but holds lot of importance for people in India. People look up to Kumbh Mela with highest regard, as this event gives them a golden opportunity to liberate themselves from the miseries and sufferings of life. It enables them to take a holy dip in the sacred water and wash away all the sins they have committed in the past. People come from different parts of the country to be a part of this sacred ceremony. It is believed that taking a holy dip in water paves way for attainment of Moksha. I don’t have any practical experience about it but from the visuals I got to see in some movies and videos of Kumbh Mela, I feel that there is some strong magic in the word ‘Kumbh’ which attracts Millions of people from various part of the world to come at this Hindu Pilgrimage and dive inside the holy river not just because its a part of worship, but to leave away all the miseries of their in the river and take away that peace which purifies their soul and connects them directly to their Almighty.
